The One Who Loves Always Wins

This interview has been all over Instagram lately, but instead of just scrolling past, I found myself replaying that one part again and again. It’s Ethan Hawke on the red carpet at the Berlin International Film Festival, being asked something simple about love. He said that "The one who loves always wins, doesn't matter if you get your heartbroken" He compared it to the sun, saying: "Because when you’re feeling it, you are alive. You are living it. The sun doesn’t care if the grass appreciates its rays or not, it keeps on shining. That's you in love." And that made me pause, almost like my brain needed a moment to rewire itself. Because most of us have been taught to see love like a transaction. If it’s returned, it’s valuable. If it lasts, it’s successful. If it ends, it feels like failure. But loving someone deeply is not a loss. Feeling something real is not something to be ashamed of. Being open, expressive, and sincere is not weakness. It’s not about chasing people who treat you badly. It’s not about staying where you’re not respected. It’s about walking away when you have to… without letting the experience harden or shrink you into someone you’re not. Even if the person you love doesn’t love you back, it still doesn’t take away from what you gave. Because at the end of it all, the one who loved fully didn’t walk away empty. They walked away with something real, something honest, something deeply felt. And in a time where people are constantly trying to distract themselves, to numb their feelings, to avoid anything too real. Feeling something deeply has become rare. Choosing to love anyway, to stay open, to not shut down completely that’s not weakness. That’s courage. So don’t let the wrong people make you smaller. Don’t let rejection dim your light. Keep on shining.
