Better Than the Movies

Better Than the Movies

by Lynn Painter

This was my first rom-com book, and I genuinely didn’t expect it to make me feel this much. I thought it would just be a cute, light read, but it ended up having me blushing through almost every page. There’s something about the way the story unfolds that just pulls you in so effortlessly, like you’re living inside a soft, feel-good movie. Wes and Liz… honestly, they felt like the perfect couple. Not in an unrealistic, too-perfect way, but in a way that makes you believe in love again. Wes is exactly the kind of guy most girls secretly dream about, thoughtful, funny, and unexpectedly genuine. Their chemistry wasn’t just exciting, it felt natural. Their story didn’t just feel epic, it felt real. Soft, spark-filled, a little messy, and incredibly dreamy… truly better than the movies. One thing I really appreciated was that the book didn’t rely on smut. I went in expecting it to be like most modern romance books, but instead, it focused on emotional connection and small, meaningful moments. The romance was sweet, comforting, and built on genuine feelings rather than just physical attraction, which made it even more special. And the enemies-to-lovers trope? Done perfectly. The tension, the slow shift from irritation to something deeper, it was everything you’d want and more. It didn’t feel forced or rushed, it felt like something that naturally grew over time. Overall, this book felt like a warm hug mixed with butterflies. It made me laugh, blush, and just feel…happy and loving. And for a first rom-com, I don’t think I could’ve picked a better one.
